arrow The Dunedin Heritage Festival 2011 326 George Street, Dunedin

Iain will be exhibiting as part of the 2011 Layers of Gold exhibition in the Dunedin Heritage Festival.

"150 years ago, when Gabriel Read made the first major discovery of gold in Otago, at Gabriel's Gully, he well and truly put Dunedin on the world map. Dunedin became the gateway to the goldfields, and the Otago Goldrush became the catalyst that laid the foundations of Dunedin's rich heritage. 'Layers of Gold' celebrates not just the discovery of gold in 1861, but the rich layers of the city's past that have been woven into the fabric that is our vibrant city today."

Open to the public at Iains Studio, 326 George Street, Dunedin, times as follows:
- Friday 18th & Monday 21st March, 9.00am - 5.00pm
- Saturday 19th, 10.00am - 3.00pm

arrow "Welcome To My Nightmare" Exhibition Ashburton Online Feature

Iains 'Welcome To My Nightmare" exhibition has been featured on the Ashburton Online Website.

"He uses spiritual influences in conjunction with nature's elements to produce his thought-provoking works. The artist describes himself as an "an artist jeweller" or "independent hand jeweller". "I design and make jewellery from start to finish. I make the piece for myself and whether it sells or not, I have still experienced the pleasure of creating something very personal," says Henderson.

Henderson's Ashburton exhibition features a 50/50 split of jewellery and sculpture. The 3D sculptures are made in Stirling silver and gold. They are set with precious and semi precious gems. They tell a story of conflict within Henderson's mind and merge his love of machines and organic form. "I build structures that live and battle within themselves. There is always a point of innocence – a woman, a child or a toy. Around them life goes on, often in threatening form," said Henderson.

Some of the sculptures have been described as looking like something out of Mad Max movie. Protruding jet planes are a common theme in all of them. Henderson's jewellery pieces use emeralds, diamonds, paua and pearls. The works on display will cost you between $3,000- $14,000 to buy and reflect the price of the raw materials used. Unlike a painter who has paint and canvas to pay for, the jeweller's palette of metal and precious stones can be a big financial outlay, with no guaranteed return."
